Director of People & Culture

Apply to be our Director of People & Culture and help take Hive to the next level.

– Be a part of something bigger –

We’re Hive, a tech scaleup with huge but realistic ambitions.

This is a rare opportunity to join a fast-growing, award-winning scale-up business that is going to change the future of work for 00’s of thousands of people all over the world – because who doesn’t want to have great days at work?!

Based in Newcastle City Centre, Hive operates in the ‘HR Tech’ space; one of the fastest-growing sectors in tech right now. Our feature-rich platform connects employers and employees by gathering workforce feedback and insights on a continuous basis – an approach that is now adopted by SMEs and multinational corporations such as Apple, Amazon and Google.

We’ve grown quickly (and plan to accelerate things further) while trying to nurture and develop the best things about our culture. Most scale-ups don’t hire a People-centric team member until they’re at least 50 people. It’s around the time that processes start to feel a bit chaotic and the company needs a person to step in to handle change management along with creating official procedures. Well… we’ve reached that point.

Are you interested in joining a daring, dynamic, fun-loving team that is changing the way thousands of people experience work? This might just be the dream job you’re looking for.…

What’s Exciting About It

Yes, this is a new role but we’ve laid some decent foundations. With you on board and spearheading it, we’re going to be taking our approach to delivering an amazing employee experience at Hive more seriously than ever.

We’re experiencing growing pains, it’s the right time to recruit and this role is going to have the support of everyone in the business.

As a member of the senior leadership team here, you’ll help connect the board with our people.

We want our culture to be amazing and we have ambitions to be THE employer of choice for talented people in the North East (or wherever else we plan to put down our roots).

In a nutshell…

The key goals of the role are to deliver a fantastic and consistent work experience to all departments and demographics, to keep our people focussed, productive and engaged and enable us to achieve ambitious growth targets; to attract and nurture top talent; to scale and institutionalise all the best parts of our culture; to upskill the team and to stop politics and bureaucracy from creeping in as the size and complexity of our business increases.

How we get there… well that’s up to you.

Things that we think we can be even better at:

  • Even better at defining our culture;
  • Baking our culture into everything we do;
  • Behavioural frameworks;
  • Articulating our EVP;
  • Recruitment process consistency;
  • Employee onboarding;
  • Personal development – it’s too ad-hoc at the moment;
  • Objective setting and performance reviews;
  • Comp strategy;
  • D&I; and
  • Anticipating people needs.

About You

We’re looking for a successful HR pro with the vision to shape Hive’s People strategy. With demonstrable ability to operate at senior leadership level; you’ll make valuable contributions to the ongoing success of Hive.

Ideally, you’ll be proactive, energetic and you’ll have previously experienced life in a high-growth business or scale-up environment.

You’re able to balance the detailed operational tasks of the role with the strategic workload.

  • Competitive salary
  • 26 days paid annual leave
  • Flexible working
  • The best equipment for the job
  • A talented, positive, can-do team of coworkers
  • Informal work environment
  • Planned social events
  • Knowing that you’re part of something that’s going to matter
