Working in collaboration with your colleagues from across all areas of the business, you’ll be the first point of contact for our IT support needs. You will provide friendly, helpful, knowledge to support our people to upskill themselves. 

Never a dull moment, you’ll work on a wide range of tasks to assist our people in getting the most from their roles with Hive. 

Also, to facilitate our employees’ learning and career progression, we run regular self-development sessions where you will be afforded the time, budget and support, to mature your knowledge and experience.

The Role 

The IT Apprentice will be responsible for the day to day maintenance of the site covering internal IT. This will consist of 1st line support covering basic IT tasks from user password resets to computer support. 

You will also be responsible for the setup and deployment of new computers, and managing our MDM solution. 

Ideally you’ll have knowledge in some or all of these areas. Don’t worry if some of these are new to you. 

  • Management of the day to day ‘support@’ helpdesk ensuring all requests are actioned as per KPI’s 
  • Responsible for all day to day IT issues across all internal IT 
  • Update and maintain IT reporting
  • Assisting in deployment of hardware, along with software management and equipment movement 
  • Ensuring networking and patching is completed and recorded 
  • Responsible for the planned preventative maintenance across the site
  • Asset management and maintenance of the asset register 
  • PAT Testing of IT equipment
  • Create & maintain a supplier list for facilities suppliers & contractors, to include supplier approval
  • Management of our MDM solution including rolling out of new software across our devices
  • Google G-Suite administration
  • Incident reporting & management
  • Work towards achievement of objectives & KPI’s 

Day-to-day you’ll be working in a technology team with other passionate technologists. We’ll provide you with training, support and development opportunities. 


About You 

Passionate about tech: Tech isn’t just a day to day job for you, it’s a vocation. You’re keen to explore new technologies and solutions, and enjoy the technical challenges of creating robust solutions and processes that can scale. 

Communication is key: You’re a confident speaker who can articulate not just what you and your team will be doing, but why it’s necessary and how it can be achieved. You are comfortable giving, and receiving, constructive feedback.

Technology: You have a passion for technology and for using technology to help solve problems for your colleagues. 

Innovation: Self-learning is part of your DNA. You’re comfortable learning about the latest technologies and more importantly, know how and when to apply them. 

Commitment to completion: You love seeing projects through to completion and are excited by the prospect of enabling your peers to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. 


Desired qualifications 

  • 5 GCSE’s, grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent (including English Language, ICT and Maths)

Interview Process 

Our interview process is usually carried out over two stages, both of which will be carried out over Zoom. 

The first stage will give you the opportunity to find out more about Hive and what it’s like being an IT Support Technician here. We’ll then have a chat to get to know each other and to make sure the role is a right fit for you and usually lasts no longer than 30 minutes. 

The second stage consists of finding out more about you and your experiences to date and some scenario based questions. The second stage should last approximately 1 hour. 


COVID / Remote working 

You’re probably wondering what’s going on at Hive and how we’re working together with everything going on in the world right now. Prior to March 2020 everybody was based out of our Newcastle HQ but in recent times we’ve adapted and have taken a remote-first approach – the majority of us have been working from home since the start. We have always had super flexible working at Hive which has made it an easy transition for us using collaboration tools such as Zoom, Slack, Miro and Mural. As long as you are UK based we are interested in hearing from you, regardless of whether you want to work remotely, or when able to, work from the Newcastle HQ, or a bit of both.
