Design Lead (Part-Time)

The Gist
Your Responsibilities

Owning design quality and consistency

  • Take clear ownership of Hive’s visual output across all channels
  • Raise and maintain standards around attention to detail, consistency, and execution
  • Ensure our brand shows up in a confident, intentional, and cohesive way

Delivering high-impact design work

  • Lead design on priority initiatives such as:
    • Website pages and ongoing improvements
    • Campaigns and launches
    • Core marketing and sales assets

  • Balance craft with pace — applying excellence where it has the greatest impact and momentum where it matters most.

Building scalable design systems

  • Create and maintain:
    • Canva templates for non-designers
    • Clear brand guidelines and guardrails
    • Reusable components that reduce rework

       

  • Enable the wider team to self-serve confidently without diluting the brand
  • Reduce dependency on design for low-value or repetitive tasks
  • Manage a 3rd party design service to scale production
  •  

Working as a creative partner to marketing and beyond

  • Collaborate closely with:
    • Marketing colleagues
    • Customer delivery teams
    • The sales department
    • Product development

 

  • You’ll help strengthen briefs by asking the right questions, challenging assumptions, and clarifying objectives — ensuring the end product is as strong as possible.
  • Help the team think more visually, not just execute requests

Make full use of the tools

  • You’ll already be comfortable with using our suite of design and presentation tools; Figma, Adobe CC, Canva, Google suite
  • If you know your way around WordPress, Elementor, HubSpot and animations as well, that’s even better

Using AI thoughtfully

  • Explore and apply AI tools to improve ideation, speed, and output
  • Extend creative capability while protecting quality and judgement
  • Share what works (and what doesn’t) with the team

  • Design quality across Hive noticeably levels up
  • Our website and key digital assets feel sharper and more cohesive
  • Our software is promoted in a way that showcases its full potential
  • The brand feels more confident and intentional
  • The marketing team can move faster without constant design dependency
  • Design decisions are proactive, well-reasoned, and trusted
About you

You’re likely someone who:

  • Is comfortable being the sole designer and owning decisions
  • Thinks in systems as well as assets
  • Has a varied design portfolio across digital, print and brand design, it’d be great if you had some experience of illustration too
  • Cares deeply about craft and results
  • Has strong judgement and can prioritise without hand-holding
  • Is confident pushing back and explaining why
  • Is curious about new tools and ways of working (including AI), but grounded in fundamentals
  • Obsesses over attention to detail
  • Takes pride in your supreme organisation skills
  • Takes care to listen, read and collect information before taking action
  • Is a team player extraordinaire who can communicate effectively with various individuals and departments
  • Has a positive mindset and a sense of when to inject some fun into the mix!

Hive is an employee voice platform and strategic HR partnership. 

…what exactly does that mean? 

We’re a B2B SaaS (Software as a Service) business that provides our customers’ employees with a secure channel to speak up—whether that’s through surveys, or one of our other unique employee voice features.

On top of that, our Professional Services team work closely with our customers’ HR teams to: 

  • Create bespoke employee voice strategies
  • Gather as much varied and meaningful employee feedback as possible
  • Analyse and report on what those employees have to say
  • Take action off the back of the findings.
