Insight to ownership

The College had been running engagement surveys with Hive for several years, alongside support from our Professional Services team. While results were well understood at senior level, ownership of action planning sat largely with the Executive, HR and OD teams.

Managers had visibility of the results, but less ownership of what happened next. The College wanted to shift engagement from something driven centrally by HR to something managers and teams could understand, own and act on locally.

Building manager confidence to take action

Patti Turfrey, Lead Employee Experience Partner, designed a bespoke programme of in-person action planning sessions for around 90 managers across four sessions.

The programme focused on the practical mechanics of turning survey insight into action, using an accessible action planning framework.

It also addressed areas where managers had said they lacked confidence, including how to interpret and respond constructively to more challenging findings.

A noticeable shift in engagement and ownership

At the next baseline survey, the response rate increased by 15 percentage points, the Engagement Index rose by 1.1 points and eNPS increased by 29 points.

Two-thirds of managers were also actively using the action planning functionality within the platform, giving HR and OD greater visibility of local activity while strengthening manager ownership and accountability for action.

“Patti’s session was insightful and valuable, and set the perfect tone for our Senior Leadership Team. They commented post-session how interesting and useful it had been.

Patti’s delivery style is friendly and nurturing and she holds the attention of her audience very well. We are so grateful for Patti’s help and couldn’t be more pleased with the session she delivered”
